Evelyn Jons – Mezzo-soprano

“Evelyn Jons is warmth and eroticism in her own right, both in her powerful presence and her sensual physicality—but above all in her voice, which ranges from guttural screams to the most poetic nuances.”
— Aftenposten, Norway

Evelyn Jons is an internationally oriented mezzo-soprano and creator, distinguished by her ability to combine theatrical storytelling with symphonic concert performance. With a background in musical theatre, she brings dramatic clarity, musical precision, and strong audience engagement to the orchestral stage.

She graduated in Musical Theatre from the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg in 2001 and soon established herself as a leading performer in major productions across Scandinavia. Her roles include Florence in Chess (Gothenburg Opera), Anita in West Side Story (Wermland Opera; Wasa Theatre, Finland), Jenny in The Threepenny Opera (The Norwegian Theatre), Grizabella in Cats (Gothenburg Opera), Ulrika in Kristina från Duvemåla (Dalhalla), Fantine in Les Misérables and Velma Kelly in Chicago (Trøndelag Theatre, Norway), and Sugar Kane in Some Like It Hot (Norrbotten Theatre, Sweden; Wasa Theatre, Finland).

Her transition to the symphonic concert stage began with an invitation to perform as soloist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (Sweden’s National Orchestra). In her first concert appearance, she performed alongside Peter Jöback in a program dedicated to Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, conducted by Nick Davies. This encounter with the American symphonic musical tradition became a defining moment in her artistic development.

“Most sensational is Evelyn Jons—not because of any vocal or theatrical gimmicks, but simply through the way she opens herself up completely and lets the melody flow.” — Dagens Nyheter, Sweden

Evelyn’s artistic focus gradually shifted toward the American musical canon in its original symphonic form—repertoire that remains underrepresented on European concert stages. She was particularly drawn to the richness of large-scale orchestral arrangements and to concert formats that allow for narration, dramaturgy, and direct communication with the audience.

In 2012, she premiered her first self-produced symphonic project in collaboration with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has become a trusted artistic partner for orchestras throughout Scandinavia, regularly commissioned both as a soloist and as a curator and creator of concert productions.

A hallmark of Evelyn’s work is her holistic approach: she develops complete concert concepts by curating repertoire, writing scripts, and shaping dramaturgical flow. This enables orchestras to present programs that are accessible, contemporary, and engaging, while fully respecting symphonic standards and rehearsal structures.

Over the past 15 years, Evelyn has collaborated with orchestras including the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra—often across multiple productions. She has worked with conductors such as Nick Davies, Case Scaglione, Josef Rhedin, Ingar Bergby, Anders Eljas, Kevin Lockhart, Wayne Marshall, Alexander Hansson, Torodd Wigum, and Per-Otto Johansson.

“With her voice, her aura, and her unmistakable stage presence, Evelyn Jons fully commands the stage.” — Borås Tidning, Sweden

To ensure consistently high artistic quality, Evelyn has built an extensive personal library of orchestral arrangements by leading Scandinavian arrangers. Her productions combine this material with carefully selected rental arrangements from international publishers, offering orchestras reliable, performance-ready programs.
